Great Redeemer, Thank You for blessing this nation’s founders with Your guidance, forethought, wisdom and vision that created the bedrock of freedom lasting for centuries. With Your grace let us maintain that foundation for centuries more. Thank You for the faithful people’s prayers that strengthens our nation.
Turn the hearts and minds of the American people toward whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise. Guard us from falsehood, contempt, and the distractions that harden our hearts. Teach us to recognize what is good without closing our eyes to suffering or injustice.
Elevate our conversations in homes, churches, schools, workplaces, and public life. Give us voices that speak truth with humility, ears that listen patiently, and courage to seek reconciliation without surrendering righteousness.
When the tasks before us seem daunting, direct our desires and sustain our labor. Correct what is misguided, strengthen what is faithful, and help us finish the work You entrust to us.
Keep our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. In You alone, may we find our voice to speak, our strength to move, and our hope to persevere to that wondrous day with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6 NLT
“We live in an age of science and of abounding accumulation of material things. These did not create the Declaration. Our Declaration created them. The things of the spirit come first. Unless we cling to that, all our material prosperity, overwhelming though it may appear, will turn to a barren sceptre in our grasp. If we are to maintain the great heritage which has been bequeathed to us, we must be like-minded as the fathers who created it. We must not sink into a pagan materialism. We must cultivate the reverence which they had for the things that are holy. We must follow the spiritual and moral leadership which they showed. We must keep replenished, that they may glow with a more compelling flame, the altar fires before which they worshipped.” — President Calvin Coolidge July 5, 1926
