Creator and Giver of life, we thank You that the American people were taught to name life among the rights no government may invent or revoke. We thank You for children born, for elders still among us, for hands that heal, and for neighbors who refuse to abandon the weak. Forgive us where we have treated persons as problems, where violence has torn families, and where despair has whispered that some lives are not worth the cost.

Grant wisdom to those who govern, judge, teach, and care for the sick, that they may do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly. Strengthen mothers and fathers, foster families, churches, and caregivers.

We thank You for the gift of life and for the countless blessings woven into our days. Thank You for families, friendships, work, worship, freedom, beauty, and the opportunity to begin again. Teach the American people grateful for our days and to use them wisely.

Comfort the grieving, steady those tempted to harm themselves, and give our nation a renewed will to choose life—for the unborn, the disabled, the poor, the stranger, and the dying. Knit us together in truth and charity, and let the abundant life You promise be known in our homes and towns. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10 LSB

“Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged. When our ancestors came to these shores in search of religious freedom, they brought with them a deep belief in the sanctity of human life and a commitment to the dignity of the individual.” — Ronald Reagan Address to the National Association of Evangelicals (March 8, 1983)
