Almighty God, Lord of nations and Giver of liberty, we thank You for those who have stood watch for America. We honor the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, reserves, and first responders who gave their service, their health, and sometimes their lives.
Give our leaders wisdom, humility, and integrity. Let them use power with restraint, speak truthfully, and seek justice and peace. Heal the wounded in body and spirit. Comfort grieving families, and bless every veteran with dignity and gratitude.
Establish in us, the watchman, ever vigilant. Guard our nation, and teach us to trust You more than our own strength. Unite us in the duty to protect our neighbors and honor each person made in Your image.
Make us strong and courageous, and bless our churches and communities with compassion. Grant us a peace worthy of the sacrifices made for it, and let liberty endure under Your Providence. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalm 91:9-10
“Security against foreign danger is one of the primitive objects of civil society. It is an avowed and essential object of the American Union. The powers requisite for attaining it must be effectually confided to the federal councils.” — James Madison Federalist No. 41 (1788)
