Merciful God, we come before You on behalf of America and the American people with humble hearts. Search us and reveal the sins we have excused, the wounds we have ignored, the truth we have resisted, and the bitterness we have carried. Create in us clean hearts and renew right spirits within us.
Grant us godly sorrow that leads to repentance—not empty words, but changed lives. Teach us to seek justice, correct oppression, speak truthfully, keep faith with one another, and protect those who are vulnerable. Give wisdom and integrity to our leaders, courage to our churches, peace to our families, and compassion to our communities.
Lord, help those who have been hurt to find safety, healing, faithful care, and freedom from the burden of revenge. Teach us to forgive as we have been forgiven in Christ, while also pursuing accountability, truth, and wise boundaries.
Turn our nation back to what is good, righteous, and true. May repentance bring renewal, forgiveness bring healing, and Your grace lead us toward unity and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:10-12 ESV
“Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.” — Abraham Lincoln Appointing a Day of National Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer March 30, 1863
