1948 – The F-86 Sabre sets the world aircraft speed record at 671 miles per hour.
The F-86A set its first official world speed record of 671 miles per hour (1,080 km/h) on 15 September 1948, at Muroc Dry Lake, flown by Major Richard L. Johnson, USAF.

1954 – Marilyn Monroe’s iconic skirt scene is shot during filming for The Seven Year Itch.
Marilyn Monroe wore a white dress in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, directed by Billy Wilder. It was created by costume designer William Travilla and worn in the movie’s best-known scene. The image of it and her above a windy subway grating has been described as one of the most iconic images of the 20th century.
