Lord, we come before You grateful for the Divine Providence that Abraham Lincoln so often confessed, the same providence enshrined in Illinois’s own motto of “State Sovereignty, National Union.” We thank You for two centuries as “the beating heart of our Republic,” for the courage that ratified liberty and justice for all within her borders.
We lift up Illinois’s families weighed down by a mounting budget shortfall and pension debt — grant her leaders wisdom to govern with integrity and restraint. Protect the Chicago area’s crumbling transit system and the workers who depend on it. Guard every vulnerable and dying soul as lawmakers weigh matters of life; let mercy and truth prevail. Calm the streets of her cities, and heal the fear between neighbor and stranger.
Bless her farmers, her teachers, her first responders, and her churches. Let Illinois again be, as Lincoln prayed, a people the God of our fathers has not forsaken. May her leaders walk humbly, “do justice, and love kindness,” and may peace settle over the Land of Lincoln, now and always. Amen.
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 ESV
“Let us all pray that the God of our fathers may not forsake us now. To Him I commend you all. Permit me to ask that with equal sincerity and faith you will invoke His wisdom and guidance for me.” — Abraham Lincoln Farewell Address February 11, 1861
Hold Fast, Spread the Word and God Save the Republic.
