1887 – The Rocky Mountains Park Act becomes law in Canada creating the nation’s first national park, Banff National Park. The Rocky Mountains Park Act, enacted on June 23, 1887, by the Parliament of Canada, established Banff National Park, formerly known as “Rocky Mountains Park.” This act was inspired by the Yellowstone Park Act passed by the United States Congress in 1881. It laid the foundation for the national park concept, striking a balance between conservation and development.
