“We’re all put to the test… but it never comes in the form or at the point we would prefer, does it?” – Anthony Hopkins (as Charles Morse in “The Edge” 1997)

Captivating scenery hides the danger, both from the wilderness and each other. “The Edge” feels like an intense wilderness nightmare that turns into a study of what people are really like when everything is stripped away. Charles Morse, a quiet, intellectual and resourceful billionaire portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, suddenly has to rely on his wits to survive after a plane crash strands him in a brutal Alaskan landscape, while working side by side with Bob, a charming photographer played by Alec Baldwin who may be secretly plotting against him. As they wander through the cold, hunted by a massive bear and weighed down by suspicion over the infidelity of Charles’s beautiful wife, you can feel the mix of fear, pride, jealousy, desperation and wounded trust in every conversation. It’s less just a survival thriller and more a story about what you discover about yourself—and other people—when death is close and there’s nowhere to hide.
