Shun the “-tion”
Start the New Year with resolute determination. The root of resolution is resolute, defined as such; being firm, determined, and unwavering in purpose or opinion, showing strong conviction and not giving in easily, unyielding.
We then at the beginning of the year add the “-tion”. When that is add it seems to change the meaning to “I’ll try for a couple days and then give up” or “It’s been a couple of weeks and nothing has changed, so forget it.”
So instead, just be resolute. Stand firm in your faith. Pray unceasingly. Do not give into the everyday trivialities. Rely on the unyielding love of Jesus.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
“Perhaps the best resolve is to live so that next year new resolutions will be unnecessary.” President Calvin Coolidge December 30, 1930.
