God, thank You for granting us the precious gift of free will. We also thank You for clearly demonstrating that this freedom resides within the confines of Your laws. We pray, God, against the prevailing cultural tendency to redefine freedom as liberation from any boundaries. Our nation, culture, and people are currently engulfed in moral, relational, and economic chaos. We humbly come to You to guide us back to the liberty that only comes from walking in Your presence; as a people, a culture, and a nation.
The one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:25
“For these inestimable blessings we cannot but be grateful to that Providence which watches over the destiny of nations… When we view the blessings with which our country has been favored, those which we now enjoy, and the means which we possess of handing them down unimpaired to our latest posterity, our attention is irresistibly drawn to the source from whence they flow. Let us then, unite in offering our most grateful acknowledgments for these blessings to the Divine Author of All Good.” ~ President James Monroe – November 16, 1818

Operation World : Pray for South Sudan : South Sudan is the world’s newest country. The nation was born in a great spirit of unity, happiness, and hope. Thank God for this freedom from the long, painful domination by the north. Yet, more than 10 years on, over a quarter of the population rely on aid agencies for food, the majority of females have suffered sexual violence, and progress is continually stalled by ethnic rivalries who refuse to share power, reconcile or build a better future together. Every family in South Sudan suffers lasting effects from the horrors of war and conflict. A country with a large Christian majority should surely not be beset by such self-inflicted harm. Pray for the Church to have a good influence in society and leadership, to make life better for all people. We echo the words of the final line of the national anthem, “Oh God, bless South Sudan!”
A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Isaiah 40:3 (NIV)
