Yesterday’s keynote was full of great releases and reveals. I am very excited to see the Mac Pro, it looks awesome and the power it wields is phenomenal. I for one believe there will be a build to order option to add a second SSD drive as the space is there for it on the board. Now if hard drive manufactures could release some decent Thunderbolt options that don’t break the bank.
The upgrade to the Mac Book Air line is nice. The extended battery life was what I was expecting to see when the current body style was revealed three years ago.
My OS of choice will no doubt lie in Mavericks. I won’t degrees into the name. It’s there and like all previous iterations I will grow to like it. I still prefer just to call it 10.9. Out of the many improvements and additions, my favorite will be the Multiple Displays. Dock and menu bar across all displays and the ability to add your TV via the AppleTV as a third was significant. It looks like the supported machine list should mirror 10.8’s:
- iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
- MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
- Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
- Xserve (Early 2009)
Though some features like in 10.8 will still be only available to the more current machines.
iOS 7 . . . well I will be using it in the future when it comes out. I did test out the beta and I will let the professionals iron out the bugs. It was fun to play with for the day, but I need to depend on my phone. Loved iTunes Radio, goodbye Pandora and Spotify. Don’t get me wrong I like what the are offering, and I am a fan of Sir Ive. But the new UI will take some getting used to. And as petty as it might sound I like the new icons except for Safari’s. The 3GS has had a long run, but it did not make the cut. The supported devices are:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPad 2
- iPad 3
- iPad 4
- iPad Mini
- iPod Touch 5th Gen
The Apple Lounge released a nice comparison chart:
Last the Airport / Time Capsule family was granted a makeover. The new design should help with reception.
