Drobo announced two new drives today, the Drobo 5D and Drobo Mini, both of which utilize Thunderbolt and USB 3.o technology. The 5D holds 5 3.5″ drives and the Mini hold 4 2.5″ drives. Both take advantage of onboard SSD to cache data for faster access. And both have built-in batteries to help prevent data loss due to loss of power. The big advantage here is the Thunderbolt, I have been waiting to see Drobo adopt this and they are not disappointing. The Mini is especially enticing with portability. No release date or pricing as of yet.
