The Mars Curiosity Rover is Essentially a PowerMac G3

Here are some of the technical specs of the Curiosity Rover:

  • PowerPC 750 CPU clocked at 200 Mhz (A.K.A. PPC G3)
  • 256MB of RAM
  • 2GB flash storage (SSD)
  • (17) 1600×1200 (2-megapixel) cameras
  • VxWorks OS, this also powers the Apple Extreme Wireless Routers.

At least NASA is using hardware and software that is dependable. I know after 12 years, my PowerBook G3 still does what I need it to do.
